This weeks guest poet is Chris Agee.

Chris Agee was born in 1956 in San Francisco and grew up in Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island. He attended Harvard University and since 1979 has lived in Ireland. He is the author of three books of poems, In the New Hampshire Woods (Dublin, The Dedalus Press, 1992), First Light (The Dedalus Press, 2003) and Next to Nothing (Cambridge, UK, Salt, 2009), as well as the editor of Scar on the Stone: Contemporary Poetry from Bosnia (Bloodaxe, 1998, Poetry Society Recommendation), Unfinished Ireland: Essays on Hubert Butler (Irish Pages, 2003) and The New North Contemporary Poetry from Northern Ireland (Wake Forest University Press, 2008). He reviews regularly for The Irish Times and is the Editor of Irish Pages, a journal of contemporary writing based at The Linen Hall Library, Belfast.He holds dual Irish and American citizenship, and spends part of each year at his house near Dubrovnik, in Croatia.

This weeks guest poet is Martina Evans.

Martina Evans (née Cotter) is a poet and novelist. She grew up in County Cork in a country pub, shop and petrol station. After studying sciences for two years at University College Cork, she studied for a radiography degree at St Vincent’s Hospital Dublin and worked for fifteen years as a radiographer, moving to London in 1988, where she also completed a degree in English and Philosophy at the Open University. Martina began writing in 1990 and has published three books of poetry and three novels. Her first novel, Midnight Feast, won a Betty Trask Award in 1995 and her third novel, No Drinking No Dancing No Doctors (Bloomsbury, 2000), won an Arts Council England Award in 1999. Her fourth poetry collection, Facing the Public, is due to be published by Anvil Press in September 2009 and has won bursary awards from both the Irish Arts Council (An Chomhairle Eiraíon) and Arts Council England. Her poetry has appeared in many magazines and newspapers both in the UK as well as Ireland and the US. She is a popular performer of her work and has done many readings in Ireland and the UK. She has frequently spoken and performed on BBC radio as well as on Irish radio. Martina has judged the London Arts Board Awards, the London Metropolitan Creative Writing Competition for two years as well as the Listowel Irish Post Short Story Competition for three consecutive years. She has written for The Irish Post, The Irish Times and The Guardian and she has been children's books reviewer for the Irish Post since 2000. She has been Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Queen Mary, University of London from 2003-2007. She has also designed and directed a creative writing summer school at London Metropolitan University and run workshops at various literary festivals and the National Film School. She has taught at the University of East London and Centreprise Literature Development Project. Currently, she teaches creative writing at the City Literary Institute and recently she directed the Advanced Poetry Workshop at Listowel Writer’s Week.

This weeks guest poet is The Mystery Poet.

This Mystery Poet has had three collections of poetry published and a new and selected poems is due out early 2010. This poet has been described as ‘having a cutting-edge humour combined with a deep interest in Celtic mythology’. The Mystery Poet is well known to Limerick poetry lovers but also has a big following in other parts of the country. All will be revealed this Wednesday…be there!!!

This weeks guest poet is Mark Whelan.

Mark Whelan is a Limerick born poet. His work has been published in journals both at home and abroad, some of which has been translated into French Spanish and Farsi.
He has read at a number of international poetry festivals including Murcia International Poetry Festival in Spain and Pulse: Brighton International Poetry Festival in the UK.
He has published two books of poems Scarecrow Diptych (Anam Press 2003), which is illustrated by artist John Shinnors with an introduction by poet Jo Slade and Always Pushing The Pull Door (Revival Press 2008), a collaboration with artist Thomas Delohery.
He is a co-founder and on-going committee member of Cuisle: Limerick City International Poetry Festival.

Desmond O'Grady International Poetry Celebration continues for month of August.

Barney Sheehan, the man behind the inaugural Desmond O'Grady International Poetry Celebration held in Limerick last weekend has announced that due to the success of last weeks open-mic events he has arranged a series of new open-mic events in various venues throughout Limerick City and County for poets to read their work during the month of August.

Mr. Sheehan was delighted with the number of visitors who specially visited Limerick for the Poetry Celebration and is hopeful that the local tourist authorities take note and join him next year in using the event to bring even more visitors into the Mid-West.

A new programme of events, listing the open-mic venues, for the month of August is now available and details can be got by contacting:
