This weeks guest poet is John Mc Namee originator of the Out To Lunch poetry readings at the Irish Writers Centre in Dublin.

John McNamee has published many volumes of poems since his first book Flight was published in 1977. His most recent book, A Man with a Hat, was published in 2005, while a CD of the poet reading his work, entitled Out to Lunch, was released in 2003. Another CD 'When Will The Logan Berries Be Ripe' was released November 2005.

A native of Dublin he writes with insight and affection about the life of Dublin and Dubliners.

As usual the reading is preceded by an open mic session in which anyone who wishes to read is invited to do so. Complementary finger food is provided and proceeding commence at 9.00 pm.

White House Christmas Poetry Slam


The White House Poets are looking for your rhymes , half rhymes, villanelles, ballads and sonnets for this years annual White House Christmas Poetry Slam.

So stretch your iambic pentameters to new heights at this poetry extravaganza at the White House bar next Wednesday 20th December at 9.00pm. This is your chance to let the world hear your thoughts on life, love, politics, greasy chips, in fact anything that inspires you to write poetry and with lots of prizes and craic on the night it promises to be the most exciting poetry event of the Christmas. For those who don't know what a poetry slam is, it simply is a poetry reading with a competitive element. Three judges picked on the night will judge your effort on performance, content and audience reaction. The poet with the highest mark wins the slam. This years judges are Ciaran O Driscoll, Mark Whelan and Gerard Sheehy.

This week's guest is John Walsh.


John Walsh was born in Derry in 1950. He lived in Germany for 16 years
teaching English. In 1989 he returned to Ireland and settled in Connemara.
He is a singer-songwriter, organiser and MC of the hugely successful North Beach Poetry Nights Slam in Galway.
He is also an accomplished reader and performer of his poetry.
His poems have been published in the Black Mountain Review, Flaming Arrows,
Crannog, Revival 1 and Southword magazine.
His first collection of poems, "Johnny tell Them" was published in October
2006 by Guildhall Press, Derry with the support of the Arts Council of NI.

The White House Poetry Revival has being going now for three years. Every Wednesday the famous old world bar is transformed into a centre of culture as poets recite their latest work. Barney Sheehan and Dominic Taylor , the people behind the revival of poetry at the White House, continue to attract the best of Irish and International poetry to Limerick. The White House Poets would like to acknowledge the involvement of the Arts Council, Poetry Ireland, Foras na Gaeilge, Limerick City Council and the White House Bar for their continued support that has helped make the White House one of the pre eminent venues for poetry in Ireland.

This weeks guest poet is John Doorty.


John Doorty was born in Kilshanny, Co. Clare. He is the author of the poetry collection, Into the Heart of It: Daley Dialogues and Other Poems (Rathbane Publishing, 1997). He has also written and performed in the acclaimed play, ‘Out of the Heavens in Showers’ - a one-man show with live music and dance based on the life of traditional musician, Micho Russell. He was the founder of the Clare-based literary journal “Departures” and its offspring publication “New Series Departures” and their editors from 1987 to 2000.
