White House Poetry Revival
Wed. Feb 21st 2007 9.00pm
This weeks special guest poet is Máighréad Medbh.
Máighréad Medbh was born in Newcastle West, County Limerick. Since the publication of her first collection, 'The Making of a Pagan' (Blackstaff Press), in 1990, she has become widely known as a performance poet. The voice in Máighréad's poetry is consciously channeled via the body, whose senses and rhythms are the originators and interpreters of concepts. She has performed at many venues in Ireland, Great Britain and the United States, and also on the broadcast media.
Máighréad's other collections are: 'Tenant' (Salmon Publishing 1999) and 'Divas' (Arlen House, June 2003). A CD featuring her more popular pieces was produced in 2002, and is available from Odin Poetries, 121 Park Avenue, Swords, Co. Dublin. Poems have also been included in a wide range of anthologies and journals. A commissioned text for children, set to music, is to be broadcast by Lyric FM early in 2007. A new poetry collection is also in the pipeline for 2007.
The White House Poetry Revival has being going now for almost four years. Every Wednesday the famous old world bar is transformed into a centre of culture as poets recite their latest work. Barney Sheehan and Dominic Taylor , the people behind the revival of poetry at the White House, continue to attract the best of Irish and International poetry to Limerick. The White House Poets would like to acknowledge the involvement of the Arts Council, Poetry Ireland, Foras na Gaeilge, Limerick City Council and the White House Bar for their continued support that has helped make the White House one of the pre eminent venues for poetry in Ireland. As usual the reading is preceded by an open mic session in which anyone who wishes to read is invited to do so. Oh, I'd love to be able to make it up from Cork. But that won't be possible. She reads like a good poet to listen to, especially in the intimacy of your space.
Have a great evening.

Can't believe that the first time I'm out of Limerick in months and i miss this- should be very good. Put something small up on my blog about it.
