This book marks the sixth venture into publishing for Limerick poet John Liddy. Previous collections were Boundaries (1974), The Angling Cot (1991), Song Of The Empty Cage (1997), Wine and Hope (1999) and Cast-A-Net (2003).
Described by his good friend and fellow Limerick poet Desmond O Grady as someone who has lived ‘a full life’ and an excellent example to all students of literature who aspire to write.
Born in Youghal, Co. Cork, Liddy grew up in the Rathbane area of Limerick and currently spends much of his time in Spain where he works as a librarian in Madrid. He is married to his wife Pilar and they have two sons.
Liddy feels that this new collection marks a mid point in his poetic life. He has taken this opportunity to make a selection from his previous five books and combine them with new poems to create a body of work that reflects his development as a poet over the past twenty years and also gives him new creative energy to move forward.
Another important and historic aspect of the new collection is that it is published by a Limerick press. Revival Press, the imprint of the White House Poets, has for some time being active in the publishing of a poetry journal called Revival, now they are moving into mainstream publishing by producing this first full collection.
