White House Poetry Revival

This weeks guest is Co. Clare based poet Arthur Watson.

Arthur Watson was born in Belfast. He has lived in Clare for 20 years with his wife Judith. He has three children and three grand children. He has worked in theatre and commercial art. He has lived in a commune. He help found ‘Raheenwood School’,The East Clare Community Co-op’, The East Clare Mens Group’ and ‘The Clare Poetry Collective’. He is a member of ‘Dandelion Puppets’ and manages ‘Heritage Art’. His poetry has been published in ‘New Verse From Ulster’, ‘Soundings’, ‘Crow Hall Poetry’, ‘The Honest Ulsterman’. ‘Clare Market’, Stony Thursday’, ‘Clare Poetry Broadseet’, ‘Calendar Poets’, ‘PEN Poets’. He has given readings at the University of Ulster, Berlin University, Cow Hall, Cambridge Festival, Ennis Festival, Mountshannon Festival, Cuisle –Limerick City International Festival, Putney Festival, Impact Theatre, Dooradoyle Library, Java, the Furze Bush, Flannerys Bar, Rubens Café, the Belltable Restaurant, The Old Ground Hotel, Tulla Courthouse Arts Centre, Joyces Bar, The Harbour Bar, He has read on RTE, BBC and Clare FM. He is currently illustrating a selection of his poems for an anthology which will be completed with a CD/DVD in 2008.

The White House Poetry Revival has being going now for three years. Every Wednesday the famous old world bar is transformed into a centre of culture as poets recite their latest work. Barney Sheehan and Dominic Taylor , the people behind the revival of poetry at the White House, continue to attract the best of Irish and International poetry to Limerick. The White House Poets would like to acknowledge the involvement of the Arts Council, Poetry Ireland, Foras na Gaeilge, Limerick City Council and the White House Bar for their continued support that has helped make the White House one of the pre eminent venues for poetry in Ireland.

As usual the reading is preceded by an open mic session in which anyone who wishes to read is invited to do so. Complementary finger food is provided and proceeding commence at 9.00 pm.
