This weeks guest is Limerick poet John Liddy.

Described by his good friend and fellow Limerick poet Desmond O Grady as someone who has lived ‘a full life’ and an excellent example to all students of literature who aspire to write John Liddy was born and educated in Ireland. Originally from the Rathbane area of Limerick he moved to Madrid 25 years ago where he works as a teacher.Former editor of the literary review The Stony Thursday Book, with Jim Burke. He has six book of poetry to his credit, Boundaries (1974); The Angling Cot(1991);Song Of The Empty Cage (1997); Wine and Hope (2000); Cast-a-Net (2003) and The Well: New and selected Poems (2007).

Liddy's poetry has been described as having no boundaries. As profoundly Irish as Spanish he drinks from the deep well of tradition and history of both countries. His work is an example of the cultural mix we are compelled to live with for the coming century. John offers the heart of two countries, richly diverse, national in its sources, limitless and universal in its appeal.

Launch of Issue 4 of Revival Poetry Journal plus a reading by guest poet Eamonn Wall.

The White HousePoets launch Issue four of REVIVAL Poetry Journal next Wed 25th July at the White House. Copies will be available on the night PRICE: €7.00. Finger food and wine on the night. All welcome.
Submissions are now being accepted for Issue 5 to be published in Oct 2007. Deadline for submissions is the 7th September 2007.


Eamonn Wall is native of Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, Ireland, he has lived in the US since 1982. He is the author of four collections of poetry: Refuge at De Soto Bend (2004), The Crosses (2000), Iron Mountain Road (1997), and Dyckman-200th Street (1994), all published by Salmon. From the Sin-e Café to the Black Hills, a collection of essays, was published by the University of Wisconsin Press in 2000 and awarded the Michael J. Durkan Prize for excellence in scholarship. Essays, articles, and reviews of Irish, Irish American, and American writers have appeared in New Hibernia Review, Irish Literary Supplement, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, South Carolina Review, An Sionnach, and other journals. This weeks guest is UK poet Ian Horn.

Ian Horn was born in County Durham and has performed in various venues throughout the U.K. and in Europe. He has performed at the Edinburgh Festival, The Glastonbury Music Festival (2004), Wychwood Festival, Hexham Book Festival, Tubingen Book Festival (Germany), Lake Orta Literature Festival in Italy Sept (2006) and at venues in France, Portugal, Holland, Ireland and Hungary. As part of Euro' 96 he was writer in residence at the Bluecoat Arts Centre in Liverpool and he worked for the British Council in Portugal during Euro 2004. He was commissioned by BBC Radio 5 to write a poem for 'The Death of Football ' series and has also recorded a poem for Danish TV with the English Premiership and Denmark goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen. As a genuine troubadour of 'the beautiful game' with a commitment to reaching a young audience, he has appeared in over 60 schools and colleges throughout Britain.In 2000 he was awarded a Northern Promise Award from the literary development agency New Writing North. He recently collaborated with Northern Sinfonia on a sound/text response to the music of Mozart. Recent commissions include working with the government agency 'Culture North East' to promote the region and the Biritish Council in Amsterdam in association with Philosophy Football ( Holland v England). He is an active committee member of Colpitts Poetry which has been promoting literature in Durham City since 1975.
His publications include 'Verses United', an anthology of football poetry published by Durham Books to great acclaim in The Times Literary Supplement and a collection 'Jazz from the Collieries'.

Munster Literature Centre and the WhiteHouePoets present the launch of Southword Literary Journal 12.

There will be a selection of readers from the issue including Aidan Murphy, James Harpur and Nuala Ni Chonchuir.

This is the twelvth edition of the literary collection from the Munster Literature Centre in the biannual publication and it features both poetry and prose from a range of writers.

The Munster Literature Centre, Tigh Litriochta, is a resource centre established in 1993 to highlight, celebrate and promote all aspects of the literature of the Munster region of Ireland.

The WhiteHousePoets in association with Poetry Ireland presents a reading by poet Dave Lordan

Dave Lordan was born in Derby, England, in 1975. He grew up in Clonakilty in West Cork. He took an MA. in English Literature in University College Cork in 1998 and an M.Phil. in Creative writing in Trinity College Dublin in 2001. In 2004 he was awarded an Arts' Council bursary. In 2005 he won the Patrick Kavanagh Award for poetry. His work has been published widely and he is a regular and popular performer of his own work. He is an experienced creative writing teacher and workshop leader. He can be contacted at dlordan@hotmail.com for workshops or performances.The Boy in the Ring is the debut collection from a prizewinning author who has already made a considerable reputation through publications and readings. In poems that are provocative, energetic and experimental, though never obscure, The Boy in the Ring explores themes of violence, self harm and survival, ranging in focus from schoolyard bullying, through adolescent suicide and addiction, to the wars and terrors of the adult world. It is a rousing collection, sometimes comedic, sometimes disturbing, sometimes despondent, sometimes raging, sometimes ecstatic and uplifting, full of memorable characters and stories that are sure to touch readers' hearts as well as fire their imaginations.
